Who we are

Welcome to our website and meet the face of our coffee brand, Thatha (Mr. K.M Basavaraj). Born in 1923 in Kogod, into a family of coffee planters, he grew up learning the art of coffee plantation from his parents. After completing his BSc from Central College, he pursued a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) and was part of the first batch to graduate.

After gaining experience working for Volkart Brothers, a Swiss company with a significant presence in India's coffee industry, he bought the Gulagalale Estate in 1950. The estate was spread over 90 acres of land, and he worked tirelessly to turn it into a brand that it is today. Over time, he expanded the estate to 200 acres, making it one of the most flourishing coffee plantations in the region.

He was not just a successful coffee planter, but he was also a freedom fighter who actively participated in India's struggle for independence. He was jailed for six months in the Central Jail of Bangalore for his contribution to the freedom movement. However, when he was offered a site as compensation, he declined, saying that "he didn't fight for a site but for the country's freedom".

His dedication to quality and sustainability continues to inspire us to this day, and we are proud to carry on his legacy through our coffee brand. Our coffee is made from the finest beans sourced from the Gulagalale Estate and carefully roasted to bring out the rich flavours and aromas that he worked so hard to cultivate.

We are committed to honouring his legacy and to sharing the story of his life and work with coffee lovers everywhere. Thank you for joining us on this journey, and we hope you enjoy every sip of our coffee as much as we do.
